“The greater your knowledge of the goodness and grace of God on your life…”

"the more likely you are to praise Him in the storm."

With a Subtitle: "the more likely you are to praise Him in the storm."

A brief Excerpt: A Biblical Christian reflection on Matt Chandler’s quote about praising God in the storm through a deeper knowledge of God’s goodness and grace.

Quote Source – Matt Chandler

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Matt Chandler’s quote is powerful because it talks about one of the hardest parts of being a Christian.

Praise That Lasts Through the Storm

That is not just a nice thing to say on a coffee mug or a social media post. It is a truth that is deeply Biblical. When things are going well, anyone can praise God. When the bills are paid, the family is healthy, the future looks good, and prayers seem to be answered quickly, it is easy to thank Him. But everything changes when the storm hits. That is when what we really believe about God starts to come out.

Storms Reveal What We Really Believe About God

In the life of a Christian, storms are real, and faith does not ask us to ignore that reality. The Bible never tells believers to ignore pain. Christians grieve. Christians wrestle. Christians weep. Christians ask hard questions. But believers experience pain differently from the rest of the world because we have companionship in it through the Holy Spirit.

Why Knowing God Changes How We Suffer

“Knowledge” is the most important word in Chandler’s quote. He does not say, “The more you pray,” or “The more you go to church.” He says the greater your knowledge of the goodness and grace of God.

That is important.

A weak faith often comes from knowing God only slightly. People who think of God mostly as a source of comfort, success, or visible blessings may question whether God has let them down when things get tough. But if a believer truly knows God as He reveals Himself in Scripture—holy, sovereign, loving, faithful, merciful, patient, and wise—then the storm may shake them, but it will not destroy them.

A Shallow View of God Creates Fragile Faith

The more deeply you know God, the more stable your heart will be when things go wrong. A shallow view of God leads to a shaky response when suffering comes. But a deep, Biblical understanding of His character gives strength when emotions are unstable and answers are hard to find.

Biblical Knowledge Is Personal, Not Merely Intellectual

This kind of knowledge is more than just facts in your head. It is personal. It is real. It grows as you read the Bible, remember how faithful God has been, pray through hard times, and look back on your life and see how He helped you when you did not think you could go on.

Taste and See That the Lord Is Good

Psalm 34:8 says, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.”

That is not abstract theology. That is a testimony. When a Biblical Christian has experienced the goodness of God in daily life, we are more likely to trust Him when sorrow comes.

How Grace Reframes the Storm

Chandler’s second keyword is “grace.” And grace changes everything.

Through Jesus Christ, God gives grace to sinners who do not deserve it. We deserve judgment, but through Christ’s work, we receive mercy instead. We were spiritually dead, but God made us alive. We were guilty, but Christ took our guilt on the cross. We were far from God, but Jesus brought us near, and the Holy Spirit rests within us.

The Cross Proves God Has Not Abandoned Us

Suffering means something different when a believer truly understands grace. The storm is not proof that God has left us. The cross settled that question forever.

Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

What the Lord “gives us” is not a life without pain and persecution (John 16:33), but a life in the palm of His hand and a confidence in being with Him in Heaven for eternity (2 Corinthians 5:8).
