Is the Antichrist the Son of Satan? What the Bible Really Says

Scripture never calls the Antichrist Satan’s son, but it does reveal a chilling satanic connection.

With a Subtitle: Scripture never calls the Antichrist Satan’s son, but it does reveal a chilling satanic connection.

A brief Excerpt: The Bible never says the Antichrist is Satan’s literal son, but it does show he will be empowered by the dragon and marked by deception, rebellion, and destruction.

Is the Antichrist Called the Son of Satan?

This was a question that was asked from the post, “Does the Antichrist know he is the Antichrist?” Below was my answer …

No Verse Says the Antichrist Is Satan’s Literal Son

I don’t think there is an actual verse that says the Antichrist is the “son of Satan.” What the Bible does say is that he is empowered by Satan:

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:9 — “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan …”
  • Revelation 13:2 — “… the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority.”
  • Revelation 13:4 — people worship the dragon because he gave authority to the beast.

What the Bible Does Say About the Antichrist

The Antichrist Is Empowered by Satan

Scripture is clear that the Antichrist will not come in his own power alone. He will be energized by Satan and will operate under satanic authority. That is very different from saying he is Satan’s literal son.

The Beast Receives Authority From the Dragon

The language in Revelation is especially important because it shows the beast receiving power from the dragon. That makes him satanically empowered, but not satanically begotten. The Bible presents him as a counterfeit ruler acting in rebellion against God, not as a demonic mirror of Christ’s divine Sonship.

Son of Destruction Does Not Mean Son of Satan

Why Some People Misread 2 Thessalonians 2:3

Sometimes folks connect this verse with the concept of “son of Satan.”

2 Thessalonians 2:3 — “the man of lawlessness… the son of destruction”

But that says “son of destruction/perdition,” not “son of Satan.”

Biblical Language Often Describes Character, Not Lineage

This is a reference to his character and destiny, not his lineage. In Scripture, phrases like this often describe what someone is marked by, not who literally fathered them. This is also true of the verse in John 8:44 …

John 8:44 - You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

What is meant is that the Antichrist will behave like Satan, sharing his desires, reflecting his character, and serving his purposes. The Bible often uses this type of language. For example, there are many places in Scripture where believers are referred to as the “children of God.” This is spiritual lineage and not literal.

The Counterfeit Trinity in Revelation

Satan as the Dragon

Certainly the Antichrist is empowered and likely possessed by Satan and/or his minions, but in no way is he like Jesus, the Son of God.

The Antichrist and the False Prophet

Even so, Satan does seem to present an evil trinity in the form of:

  • Satan himself as the dragon
  • the Antichrist
  • the False Prophet

This is part of Satan’s ongoing pattern of counterfeiting what belongs to God.

Satan’s Deception Has Always Been Central to his Nature

John 8:44b — "When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
