Providing insight on the intersection of contemporary issues and theology, based on a Biblical Christian Worldview.

“I am not going to judge anyone who doesn’t read their Bible daily.”

There is "judgement" and there is "loving care."

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This reader’s complete statement was…

“I believe if you love the Lord you will love to read His word. But I am not going to judge anyone who doesn’t read their Bible daily.”

My Quick Thought

We are called to be fruit checkers as James says, “Faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:14,17). This is not to be construed as “judging” in the sense of one’s plank vs the speck in our brother’s eye (Matthew 7:3-5), but more a way of being salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), and iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17) toward other believers. If a professing Christian is not reading the Bible between Sundays, a loving response could be to ask why … by caring … not by judging. It’s the same action, but a different underlying reason for that action.

However, my point is not about “daily Bible reading,” but a concern over ignoring God’s Word from Sunday to Sunday (seven days). There is a fine line between legalism and sanctification (engaging God in and through His Word on a regular basis).

Proverbs 12:1 - Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
