A brief Excerpt: Christians face global persecution, yet history shows it strengthens faith. Believers are called to support and advocate for those who are being persecuted.
Quote Source – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Bonhoeffer wrote this while fighting against Nazi ideology and was later killed for his resistance. He thought that persecution was not an accident of Christianity; it was to be expected when people took Christ seriously.
Christian persecution is not just a thing of the past; it is happening right now across the world. Many people in the West think that Christianity is a powerful or culturally important religion, but millions of Christians around the world live in fear every day because of their faith. Some people are harassed, some are put in jail, and some are killed just for following Jesus.
In the Middle East and North Africa, believers often have to deal with extremist groups or harsh government rules all the time. Militant groups that target Christians burn churches, kidnap families, and attack whole communities in some parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. In many parts of Asia, especially in countries with strict rules, the government may watch Christians, arrest them for meeting together, or make them worship quietly in secret. People who change religions may be rejected by their families, lose their legal rights, or face harsh punishment.
Further, not all persecution is violent. In many places, it happens in less obvious ways, like not getting a job, not getting an education, not getting a place to live, or being publicly shamed or pushed out of society. These pressures are often meant to keep Christians quiet without getting the world’s attention.
However, history has shown us over and over that persecution doesn’t kill the church. Instead, it often makes believers’ faith stronger, brings them closer together, and makes them rely on God more.
The Bible tells us that suffering for Christ is not unexpected or useless; it is a part of following Him. Christians everywhere should pray, stand with, and speak up for those who are paying the price for being faithful to Christ.
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. - 2 Timothy 3:12
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. - John 15:18
