“Dogs go to Heaven; Cats go to Hell”

Which personality type are you?

Which personality type are you?

Quote Source – Jeff Hilles

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Consider the personality and reputation of these two animals.

Dogs: The common traits of a dog are loyalty, playfulness, and sociability toward humans, especially their owner. They are typically affectionate and have a strong desire to please their master but are also prone to get into trouble at times. And, when they do wrong, you can usually see in their faces a recognition of their bad behavior and a submissive desire to be forgiven.

Cats: The common traits of a cat are curiosity and independence. A study was done in Finland questioning the owners of 4,300 cats to determine the personality of the species. Researchers concluded that they were often playful, fearless, aggressive toward humans, and exhibited excessive grooming. Those times when they did seem to be sociable toward their owners, it was on their terms.

Are you getting the picture yet …?

God is our Master; we are His slaves.

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. - Romans 6:22

The word “slave” has strong historically negative connotations, but every major translation uses the word “slave” to describe our Biblical Christian relationship with God. The relationship with a loving Father (God) is more than peer-to-peer, as many might wish it to be. It is also more than a servant, which we also can and should identify with (James 1:1).

For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. - 1 Corinthians 6:20

The Lord actually purchased us through the shed blood of His Son on the cross. In that sense, the Lord is our master, and we are His slaves.

But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. - Romans 6:17-18

Romans 6:15-23 presses the point of mankind being either slaves to sin, or slaves to righteousness (a right relationship with God).

Born-Again Dogs

Dogs are willing to submit to their owners in a master-slave relationship. They will sin but typically, when confronted, will acknowledge the wrong they have committed and appear to be asking for forgiveness. Dogs love their masters and desire to fellowship with them. They look for opportunities to engage in playful activities. Dogs seem to recognize the power their masters have over them and respect that authority without question. Good owners show love in return by petting them and engaging in other forms of fellowship with their dogs. God’s ultimate expression of love for His slaves (mankind) was to provide His Son as a sacrifice for our sins in order that we would be forgiven for the wrongs we have (and will) commit on this earth, ultimately serving Him in Heaven for eternity.

Unsaved Cats

Like the lost, cats typically resist their owners’ control. They expect to be kept fed and watered and complain loudly if their desires are not met. When they do wrong, there is little to no appearance of contrition, remorse, or repentance. If they do choose to cuddle up to their human companion, it is not because they were called to do so; it is on their timing and at their discretion. This independence and lack of acceptance of their status in life is similar to humans who see a Creator in the world around them but refuse to accept a master-slave relationship. They build walls of disbelief regarding the Bible, Jesus, and God that allow them to be and do whatever they wish, within the boundaries of the law. Even those who do have religious beliefs are blinded to the true Trinitarian God as presented in the Bible.

Conclusion

Are you a dog or a cat? The deeper point is that you can’t be both. You must either accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or, by not doing so, you are rejecting Him. This is the most important decision you will ever make in your lifetime because it is the only decision that will last for eternity.

POSTSCRIPT: From a wise reader… “True, cats are independent, but they need their owners’ love ❤️ even more. They do appreciate that love and show it by purring and being sweet. Dogs cannot purr but show their love ❤️ in other ways. Cats demonstrate God’s love for the sinner because of how God tries to get them to come to Him. Not all cats refuse.”
