Providing insight on the intersection of contemporary issues and theology, based on a Biblical Christian Worldview.

“The Happy Happy Gospel [is] proliferating throughout American culture.”

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. - James 3:1

Quote Source – D.L. Henderson

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Joel Osteen, the “cotton-candy preacher”, has the largest “Christian” church in America (details here) and preaches exclusively on the “Happy Happy Gospel”. His theology on the Bible as the inerrant world of God, the Trinity, and salvation by faith are theologically sound. But, as with so many false teachers, these truths are intermingled with the heretical.

For example, Osteen, the pastor who inherited Lakewood Church (website here) from his father, teaches a health and wealth prosperity gospel, that Christ came to fix our sickness and pain, giving us power and control over our lives. This is a half-truth.

Deeper issues surface from church teachings that focus on the happiness of the believer (material toys on earth) rather than joy from the Holy Spirit (offering fellowship in the midst of trials). To do this, Osteen ignores the concept of our sin nature (another half-truth). He has also been unwilling to state publicly that Jesus Christ is the only pathway to Heaven (details here).

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6
