“The center of sin is the letter I.”

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, - Romans 3:23

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – The individual God used to bring His message of salvation to my wife and me back in the mid-80’s used to say that every single thing we do as humans has an underlying sinful component. Even when we are doing good for others, we are looking for a pat on the back from man or from God … that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from doing His will is pride-based. Though I am not prepared to defend the opinion of my friend, I do see his point.

The desire for approval, either from God or man, does drive our behavior, and because of that, there is an “I” in many of our actions, both positive and negative. This is true of both overt and covert (1 John 1:8-10), and active and passive (James 4:17) sin.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. - Proverbs 16:18
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. - 1 John 2:16
