A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – I had a reader who referenced the Bible as a book of poetry and a form of art, open to an individual’s interpretation.
Many theologians, poets, and connoisseurs of art would agree. The Bible is an amazing combination of 66 books, from 40 authors, written over 1500 years (details here), which fits together like a beautiful piece of art. And, in fairness to those who critique it from a secular viewpoint, as with art in any form, it is open to interpretation, as evidenced by the number of Christian denominations that use it as a sacred text.
However, the Bible should not be relegated to “art” when one recognizes that it contains the very words of God, written as an instruction manual for mankind. Among the many interpretations and rationalizations man applies to Scripture, there remains an unquestionable core (details here) that cannot be misinterpreted when reading His word at face value. Of greatest importance is the opportunity to spend eternity in Heaven, or reject the Lord’s offer at our own peril. No “art” has that power or significance.
