Let God Speak Through You

Don't let today be another day that you've never done something that God would have you do.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from 2 Samuel 23:2, ” The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue. ”

Background

I have never driven a car over 100 miles per hour. I have never flown in a helicopter. I have never been inside a Hooters restaurant. I have never smoked a cigarette. I have never shot a rifle or a shotgun. I have never dunked a basketball on a 10-foot goal without any assistance. I have never had a taste of alcohol. I have never hit a homerun out of a ballpark. I have never had anything pierced. I have never read a word of the Harry Potter novels or seen a second of the movies. I have never broken a bone. I have never said a cuss word. I have never watched someone take their last breath. I have never sat on the front row at a concert. And I have never gotten a tattoo. That’s quite a list of failures, and accomplishments, depending on the particular item. Some of them are fairly ridiculous, and some less so. It’s interesting to think back on your life and consider what you have never experienced, the choices that you made, and the blessings that befell you completely beyond your control. Some things you might change, while others you have definite plans to get to eventually. What’s a little more challenging is determining whether you were involved in certain other things. For example, did your elementary school friendship with someone affect the way they turned out as an adult? Did your kindness last week to a stranger draw them any closer to a relationship with Jesus? Or has the Lord ever spoken by you to another?

Application

Each of us would hope that what comes out of our mouth is reflective of the One who rules our heart. But are you submitted wholly to the daily cause of Christ in a way that finds His word on your tongue and Him speaking by you to others? Maybe yes, and maybe no. I wouldn’t recommend tattooing scripture to get it on your tongue. Dwelling over His written word is less painful and far more effective. And if that’s something that you’ve never done, or haven’t in a long while, then now is the time to mark that off your list.

Charge

As we seek Him today, don’t let today be another day that you’ve never done something that God would have you do.
