Scripture

Our verse for today comes from Galatians 3:16, ” Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to his seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ. ”

Background

The slightest differences can often times have some enormous effects. Try setting your alarm for 6:00, but accidentally set it with the little red light glowing that signifies ” PM. ” That little blip can make a huge difference in your day. How about the congressman who used a ” B ” instead of an ” M ” in his ” _illion ” dollar budget proposal? Do you think those extra zeroes caught anyone’s attention? If you’re familiar with the Hulk character, then you know that while he is still in his normal state, he often warns people not to make him angry because they won’t like him when he’s angry. But in the Hulk movie that came out within the last year or two, the character is living in a foreign country and tries to warn some thugs about what might be coming down on them if they continue to provoke. But his lack of expertise with the language leads him to slip up on the pronunciation and warn them not make him hungry, because they won’t like him when he’s hungry. Now, for some of us, that’s probably true. But in his case, the other guys just looked at him like he was already green.

Application

In our lives, the letter ” s ” can pack a powerful punch. Is there much difference between having one wife and two wives? As great as having a ticket to something wonderful is, isn’t it ten times more enjoyable to have two tickets to take along someone special? And when Paul’s words get translated into English, the distinction he’s making about the Seed of Abraham hinges on the letter ” s. ” Rather than talking about a host of potential offspring, Paul is pointing out that God was speaking of His Son. The promise was to Him and of Him. There was only one Savior that He had in mind. Millions of offspring, but only one Messiah. On paper, it’s barely noticeable. But for our eternal destiny, it’s immeasurable. Something as small as the letter ” s ” may confront you today. Do you answer back, or hold your tongue? Do you look, or do you move on? Do you listen in or keep walking? They’re small decisions within a day, but their effects can last a lifetime. So look out for that ” s ” that’s not so insignificant as you might think.

Charge

As we seek Him today, ask God to help you see the value and importance in every decision you make. Ask for wisdom in how you will spend every minute of this day.
