Biden’s War on Christian Freedoms: Why Vigilance Still Matters

DOJ task force documents Biden's anti-Christian bias and warns of greater dangers ahead.

With a Subtitle: DOJ task force documents Biden's anti-Christian bias and warns of greater dangers ahead.

A brief Excerpt: A federal task force has documented how the Biden administration targeted Christians across 17 agencies. Believers must stay alert because the same hostility can return with greater force if vigilance fades.

For four years, Christians who held to historic Biblical convictions on life, marriage, and human sexuality found themselves on the wrong end of federal power. What many believers sensed in their spirit is now documented in black and white. The Justice Department’s newly released Task Force report on Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias details, across 200 pages and more than 1,100 footnotes, how the Biden administration treated faithful Christians as obstacles to be removed rather than citizens to be protected.

A Documented Pattern of Hostility Toward Christians

The Task Force gathered findings from 17 federal agencies and interviewed more than 100 stakeholders and victims. Its conclusion is sobering. The Biden administration’s policies “regularly clashed with a Christian worldview and burdened traditional religious practices,” with conflicts arising chiefly over abortion, gender ideology, and sexual orientation. When religious liberty collided with progressive policy goals, the administration “almost always” sided against the believer.

This was not one rogue official. It was a coordinated, multi-agency posture spanning the DOJ, IRS, Department of Education, FBI, Department of Labor, and National Park Service.

How Biden’s Agencies Targeted Faithful Believers

Weaponization of the FACE Act

The most disturbing findings concern the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Written to protect both abortion clinics and pregnancy resource centers, the law was repurposed under former Attorney General Merrick Garland as a weapon against peaceful pro-life Christians. According to reporting on the DOJ findings, the DOJ functioned as an “enforcement arm” for Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation, and the Feminist Majority Foundation. Those groups even prepared dossiers on Christian advocates that included photographs and personal information about their children.

Elderly pro-life grandmothers praying outside clinics faced federal felony charges and sentencing recommendations more than double what prosecutors sought against actual violent attackers of pregnancy centers. President Trump later pardoned many of these believers.

IRS Investigations Based on Bible Teaching

The Internal Revenue Service investigated churches because of what pastors preached and probed Christian organizations for applying Biblical truth to daily life. In one stunning case, the IRS denied a Christian group tax-exempt status on the explicit grounds that its “Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party and candidates.” There is no evidence the same scrutiny was applied to the more than 1,600 faith leaders who publicly endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.

Catholics Labeled as Potential Extremists

The FBI’s now-infamous Richmond memo treated traditional Latin Mass Catholics as potential domestic terror threats, relying on smear material from the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center. Internal emails from November 2022 show federal employees discussing whether an individual was tied to “radical-traditional Catholic ideology.” That is the language of a regime that views devout faith as deviance.

Christian Universities Disproportionately Fined

Liberty University and Grand Canyon University were hit with disproportionately large fines compared with other institutions, including some that had covered up sexual abuse. The Department of Education appeared determined to punish schools whose statements of faith reflected historic Christian teaching on marriage and human sexuality.

Smaller Indignities That Reveal a Bigger Pattern

Some incidents seem almost petty until you see the whole picture. A Catholic hospital in Oklahoma was told to extinguish its sanctuary candle or risk losing Medicare and Medicaid funding. The National Park Service denied a Catholic organization permission to hold a quiet Memorial Day Mass at a national cemetery in both 2023 and 2024. A Christian student in a federal Jobs Corps program was repeatedly forbidden from holding a voluntary Bible study outside school hours. A Christian nurse was forced to participate in an elective abortion against her conscience, and the Biden DOJ closed her case with “technical assistance” rather than any meaningful remedy.

And on Good Friday 2024, President Biden proclaimed “Transgender Day of Visibility” to fall on Easter Sunday. That single act spoke volumes about the worldview driving the administration.

A Biblical Lens on Government Hostility

None of this should surprise the disciple of Jesus. Scripture is clear about what happens when faithfulness collides with worldly power. “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Timothy 3:12). Our Lord Himself warned, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18).

When Peter and the apostles were ordered to stop preaching, their answer framed every conflict between believers and a hostile state: “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Christians are called to honor governing authorities (Romans 13:1) and to pray for those in power (1 Timothy 2:1-2), but never to surrender the Lordship of Christ to Caesar.

Why Vigilance Matters Going Forward

A change in administration is not the end of the story. The ideologies that drove Biden-era hostility, including secular materialism, radical gender ideology, and the elevation of identity politics over conscience, did not vanish on Inauguration Day. They simply lost executive power for a season. The same legal theories, regulatory mechanisms, and cultural pressures remain firmly in place, waiting for the next sympathetic administration.

If Christians grow comfortable, the next wave will be worse. Soft persecution hardens when believers stop legally resisting. The federal machinery that prosecuted grandmothers under the FACE Act can be turned against pastors, parents, and Christian schools with even greater force. We have already watched Christian conviction reclassified as bigotry, Biblical sexuality reclassified as hate, and the unborn reclassified as disposable.

Standing Firm in Faith

The path forward is neither despair nor partisan idolatry. Our ultimate hope is not in any political party. Our hope is in the risen Christ, who declared, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

Still, believers have real responsibilities. Pray for the nation. Vote with Biblical conviction. Support the ministries defending religious liberty in court. Teach your children why the Gospel cannot be edited to please the spirit of the age. Speak truth in love, even when the cost rises.

The Biden years showed how quickly federal power can be aimed at the people of God. The next chapter has not yet been written. Whether the church faces revival or renewed persecution, Christians are called to the same posture: stand firm, love boldly, and proclaim Christ without flinching. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).
