A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – The passage in 1 Peter 3:3 is often misinterpreted to mean that women should not wear jewelry or nice clothing.  However, the context illuminates the real reason:  while there is nothing wrong with nice clothing, some jewelry, and a pretty hairdo, at issue is the excess of this dressing up.

The important thing is the “inner man”, i.e. the person wearing the nice outfit.  The outfit and the makeup are supposed to accentuate the person, rather than drawing attention to the attire itself.  Thus, the caution is not directed toward the clothing, hairdo, or jewelry, but it’s about the right measure and the intent.

This warning has applications in other areas of life as well, even though our inner legalist may want to limit that.
