Be Open With Your Agenda

Go beyond your routine and expand your sphere of influence. Be prepared to make an impact on a soul.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from 2 Samuel 24:11, ” Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to Gad, David’s seer. “

Background

When you get up in the morning, certain things probably kick into action. You might be the one who gets the coffee started, or maybe it falls on you to prepare breakfast and pack a lunch for the kids. Perhaps you have a pet who is eagerly waiting on you for a trip outdoors. Whatever it may be, there’s a good chance that your morning routine includes more than just taking care of yourself. Unless you live alone, something you do is probably for the benefit of someone else, even if it’s just turning of your alarm before it wakes that other person up. Now, what would happen if this morning, or the next, you woke up and simply did what you had to do for only yourself? You got yourself ready, you prepared your things, and then you went about your business as if you had absolutely no one depending on you for anything. What would the kids do if they came to the kitchen, had no food waiting on them, and you had no intentions of fixing them anything? How would it go over if the coffee pot that usually sustains the both of you was empty and put away when your spouse came looking for his much-needed kick start? And it’s not hard to picture the mess that would greet you if the door was never opened for the dog, is it?

Application

But what if there is someone out there who is depending on you for Jesus? What if their heart has them seeking and today could be the day, could you be the one who will rise up this morning and introduce them to Jesus? They may not even realize what they’re looking for, and you might have no clue what’s coming, but will you have a word or a moment that God ordained for His purpose? Our routines are important, for they keep us focused and on task, especially when we are tempted to give in to the weariness that caring for others can bring. But they can also blind us to opportunities that carry eternal importance. When you arise this day, consider that someone might encounter God because of it, and prepare yourself for just such an appointment.

Charge

As we seek Him today, go beyond your routine and expand your sphere of influence. Be prepared to make an impact on a soul.
