A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This comes as a response from a reader of an earlier post.
My response: We should desire to be so close to the Lord that He touches us in intimate ways throughout the day. This is a goal, not something to be avoided. However, there is a caution in depending too much on feelings.
We need to listen to God in the areas of miracles, visions, other Christians, and even “whispers” in our ears. All these extra-Biblical ways of learning more about God, including commentaries, books, sermons, lectures, etc., are tremendously valuable… BUT, to be valid…. they need to conform to God’s written word.
If God whispers in your ear that Satan is good, or, like Joel Osteen, our sin nature can be ignored, you are not listening to our Lord. Because that is contrary to God’s written word. More subtle examples would be God telling you in some way that husband-to-husband marriages are Godly, or late-term abortions for convenience are okay. Those whispers that are contrary to the Bible are coming from a different source, one to be avoided.
