What happened to the guy who didn’t accept the bread of life?

He was toast.

With a Subtitle: He was toast.

A brief Excerpt: Humor is used to explore Jesus Christ as the “bread of life,” emphasizing spiritual sustenance over simply the need for physical food.

Theology on the Lighter Side—These “jokes” are taken from a Christian Joke book. However some of them are not truly funny.

To accept the “bread of life” is to accept Jesus Christ as one’s Lord and Savior.

John 6:35 - Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."

The Bible repeats this concept in John 6:48 and John 6:51.

People in ancient times ate bread every day. It was the most basic food available. Life could not go on without it. Jesus used this picture to show that He is as important to spiritual life as bread is to physical life.

Jesus said these words after reminding his listeners about the manna that God gave to the Israelites in the desert (Exodus 16). The miraculous bread from heaven kept the people alive on their journey, but it did so only for a short time, and the next day they were hungry again. Jesus said that He is the real bread from Heaven and that He offers something much more permanent: eternal life.

The idea also touches on our most basic human need. We try to fill our lives with success, toys, or relationships, but those things never really work and often do not last. Jesus says that only He can satisfy the hunger of the human soul.

When someone puts their faith in Christ, they receive forgiveness, a new life, and a relationship with God. Jesus feeds the soul in the same way that bread feeds the body. He gives life and hope that no one else can.
