What did the wife say when her husband left the lights on again?

“Jesus is the light, but that doesn’t mean we need a high electricity bill!”

With a Subtitle: “Jesus is the light, but that doesn’t mean we need a high electricity bill!”

A brief Excerpt: Light is one of Scripture's most vivid metaphors for God's truth, but only one source is real. Satan offers a convincing counterfeit, yet God's Word gives believers the clarity to tell the difference and carry the true light forward.

Theology on the Lighter Side – What did the wife say when her husband left the lights on again? – “Jesus is the light, but that doesn’t mean we need a high electricity bill!”

The Bible uses “light” as a symbol for enlightenment which Webster defines as, “providing or tending to provide knowledge, understanding, or insight.”

In the spiritual realm, there are only two paths to gain knowledge, understanding, and insight: good and evil.

God the Father and Christ use this imagery in verses such as 1 John 1:5, James 1:17, John 8:12, John 1:5. Since we are His ambassadors, we are to reflect that light (enlightenment) to those around us (1 John 1:7, Matthew 5:16).

The evil one unsuccessfully attempts to mimic aspects of God’s approach to mankind, offering a false light in passages such as 2 Corinthians 11:14. In the end, being attracted to his domain ends in darkness (Isaiah 8:20-22).

By focusing on God’s Word, the Bible, Christians can clearly distinguish between the true light and the fake (Psalm 119:105, 130).

Each of us has a choice, to follow the true light or remain in darkness (Ephesians 5:8). Further, we are called to share that light with the rest of the world (1 Peter 2:9).
