A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – I received a comment from a reader who spoke to a deeper question in the church, touching on the subject of church discipline.
The Reader’s Comment
“How do you talk to someone who announces that “God told me:……” ?
“We go to church with an earnest man who often stands up and claims that God has appointed him as a “truth-teller” and a “rebuker.” He thinks it is his job to go out and rebuke others who are doing wrong. Thing is, there are texts that say we should rebuke those who are doing wrong, but taking that on as your signature trait is something that I would not brag about.”
My Shallow But Directed Response
“There is much I could offer on your plight, but my most direct answer is to ask if your Staff/Elders have intervened in his disruptive behavior. If they have, that is good. If they have not, that is not good.”
God calls the Overseer of the church “to take care for the church of God” (Acts 20.28b), and “know well the condition of your flocks” (Proverbs 27:23).
1 Corinthians 14:33,40 – For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints… all things should be done decently and in order.
POSTSCRIPT — A good verse on this in the context of the church setting is… 1 Corinthians 14:40 — But all things should be done decently and in order.
