One of the amazing things about Christianity is its deep roots with false religions such as Islam, Judaism, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormons, etc. In the case of the Jews and the Muslims, this has resulted in a permanent center of religious conflicts in the world, the state of Israel, and the city of Jerusalem. Even to the point of the Dome of the Rock being located on the Temple Mount, the epicenter of the merging of Biblical Christianity and these other major false teachings. The Lord wrote the Book on how it will all end. However, it is true that the steps leading up to those prophesies can be traced back to Abraham, the foundation of the Jewish race, and his two sons, Ishmael, through his wife’s maid, and Isaac through Sarah. Ishmael was the foundation of Islam (illegitimate offspring) and Isaac (through the ultimate root of Jesse), Jesus Christ and Christianity.
Because of this convergence of religious beliefs, there are many who believe Jews, Muslims, and Christians worship the same God. Clearly, there is a pre-Christ history in all the religions mentioned above (and many others) which has been documented in their sacred texts. However, the divergences toward pre-incarnate Christ in the Old Testament, both in emphasis and interpretation, are very clear.
Again, just because there is an amazing thread of history running through many religious traditions, it does not negate the clear Biblical path to eternity. One cannot take a divinely inspired Book and fracture it into verses that suggest religious unitarianism while ignoring where the thread of truth is leading. More specifically, Muslims and Jews reject the New Testament relating to Jesus as the core of salvation.
John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
If one believes in the Bible, in its entirety as the inerrant Word of God, there is no ambiguity in what is being said as relates to other faith traditions. And if one is not “worshiping” Jesus, as both their Savior and Lord, they are not worshiping God the Father who offered His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
This is also true of the Trinitarian view of God, something rejected by Jews, Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons and others…
1 Thessalonians 4:8 – Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
… regardless of what one desires to be true regarding those chosen to receive the Holy Spirit on earth, much less eternity in Heaven…
Acts 11:16-17 – Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, “John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?
Conclusion
Further, and of greatest importance … if one is not worshiping Jesus Christ and does not believe in a Trinitarian God, they are also not worshiping the Father. The choice we have in viewing the supernatural realm is a binary one. There is either God or the evil one … no other choices have been given to us regardless of which monotheistic religion we choose to believe. As Biblical Christians we need to keep this in mind as we view the beliefs of those around us, looking for opportunities to share the love of our true, eternal God.
