A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – When we reject the Bible in areas that oppose our will, we create a religion that fits our worldview rather than reinforcing a desire to follow God’s worldview.
Since we sin, the god we create, sins; since we fall short, god can fall short; since we fail our neighbor, the god we believe in can do the same. He becomes a shell of the supreme, omnipotent, omniscient God of the Bible.
As we drift farther and farther away from the truth of the one true God, we begin to doubt that there even is a god. This process has a term. It’s referred to by many Biblical Christians as “deconstruction”.
Sadly, our attempt to seek happiness by doing what we want to do turns ugly and disappointing in this life, and especially in the next. You may feel anger at not getting the toy you want, or getting it (boat, fancy car, etc.) but then finding it unfulfilling. Drifting away from God can also manifest itself by refusing to forgive someone, plotting revenge, rejecting a request for help from a friend or coworker, etc. Forming our own version of morality by having our version of god in alignment with our sin nature can promote the very behaviors that we previously considered appalling.
Mark 7:21-22 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
Gal 5:19-21Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The God of the Bible cannot be reconstructed to suite our preconceived notions. He is supreme, the Creator of the universe. The Lord has made us in His image and not the other way around. This was the point of the sermon from which the title of this brief post was taken. As believers, we need to submit to His will regardless of our self-righteous opinions to the contrary.
Revelation 1:8 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
