A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – The book of James offers insight into the line between thought and sin.
James 1:14-15 – But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Temptation and even desire (long for or express a wish) is not sin. However, to be tempted toward an action, thought or outcome that is against God’s will, should raise a red flag in the heart of the believer. It should represent a check in our spirit, caused by the Holy Spirit as our Counselor. The “battle” Lutzer is referring to calls for the believer to,
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. – Ephesians 6:11
