Subtitle: Give it all to the Lord, your King. Gain your victory through surrender.
Excerpt: The verse from 1 Kings 3:25 is used to illustrate the concept of surrender. The author questions whether the reader is clinging to a negative situation, preventing healing, and encourages surrendering pride and pain to Jesus for healing and wisdom.
Scripture
Our verse for today comes from 1 Kings 3:25, “And the king said, ‘Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other.'”
Background
In our society today, we have developed a fairly reliable form of the polygraph, or lie detector. The subject is attached to a machine that measures various bodily readings as he answers scripted questions, and the physiological responses indicate whether he is being truthful or not. This test has become a somewhat scientific method for determining the relevant truth of a matter. King Solomon had a slightly different method back in his day. When faced with determining which new mother was lying about her baby having died during the night, he decided to use his sword and cut the surviving infant in half, knowing that the real mother would rather die herself than see her son destroyed like that. And true to his plan, the mother spoke up on her child’s behalf to spare his life, while the lying mother was content to see the other woman’s baby perish. So, mother or father, son or daughter, which mom are you? Are you the one who has been injured in some way, perhaps deeply by someone close to you, and now all you can do is spread your unhappiness? Are you content to make something bad out of something good, bitter over what has come your way?
Application
Are you clinging to your half of the story, not realizing that the good is dying right before your very eyes? It can happen suddenly and without warning. It can seem random and without purpose. It can feel like too much and not worth the effort. But healing is there to be had. It doesn’t come in the middle of the night by switching your loss with another. It doesn’t come from avoiding the real issue. It’s not found through lies or deceit. His healing is found in surrender. The true mother surrendered her baby, only to get him back. Surrendering our pride or our pain can open our hearts to receive His healing and wisdom. Surrender says I can’t do it, and it’s up to someone else. When you surrender to Jesus, He says He can take care of it. Have you surrendered?
Charge
As we seek Him today, figure out if you are holding on to your half of a decaying situation. Give it all to the Lord, your King. Gain your victory through surrender.
