Signs of the End Times: Is This the Final Generation?

Why the convergence of biblical prophecy sets this generation apart.

With a Subtitle: Why the convergence of biblical prophecy sets this generation apart.

A brief Excerpt: Every generation has thought it was the last. Examine the signs of Christ's return, the rise of the Beast system, and why this generation may truly be different.

Introduction

Do you think we’re living in the end times, the times Jesus prophesied about in the Olivet Discourse in response to His disciples’ question about what would be the signs of His return, and the end of the age (Matthew 24)? Every prior generation believed it was the final one because it experienced crime, wars, plagues, earthquakes, famines, and moral decline. Let’s examine what makes this current generation different from them.

Background

Scripture has warned every generation to be ready for Christ’s return, and to keep watch, emphasizing that no one knows the day or hour of His return; only God, the Father, knows (Matthew 24:42–44, Matthew 24:36, Matthew 24:13, James 5:8–9). The uncertainty about exactly when Christ will return should cause believers to be alert, holy, and continually on mission; ready for His return at any moment.

What makes this generation different from all the others is the convergence of the signs of the end times happening globally that Jesus talked about at the end of His ministry. Israel is a nation again. We see horrible crimes, wars, plagues, and famines happening all over the world. We have global communication and the technology to enable a global digital ID system, and we see moral and spiritual decline worldwide. This decline is evident in the growing number of people abandoning core Biblical teachings and following other gospels. These other gospels include the Prosperity Gospel, the Word of Faith Movement, the Social Justice Gospel, and Deconstructionism.

What You Believe About Biblical Prophecy Matters

The Apostle John warned us to expect spiritual warfare to increase before Christ’s return. He referred to the “last hour”, which is the entire Church Age, the age of grace.

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour (1 John 2:18, BSB).

When we see events Jesus predicted becoming more frequent and intense, we need to realize that these aren’t just random events; they’re prophetic signposts. We need to ask ourselves, did everything described in the Book of Revelation already happen? Are we seeing the stage being set for the New World Order? I believe we are. Let’s examine the proof that this is exactly what’s happening in our world today.

Signs of the Setup for the Beast System

An Appetite for Global Control

The world seems to have an increasing appetite for a global system to ensure its peace, stability, and security. Every time a disaster or crisis happens in finance, health, the environment, or the military, people swing toward a global solution and are willing to sacrifice their privacy for it. This is dangerous because whenever power is handed over to a small elite group of powerful people, the threat of totalitarianism increases.

The Bible describes this global system and its future leader in Revelation 13:7. It will already be in place by the time the Antichrist appears to deceive the whole world. He will demand worldwide allegiance and worship and will have total economic control. [1] The world is now being conditioned to believe that global unity is the answer to peace, rather than believing in a loving Creator and Provider, God.

The Explosion of Lawlessness

Another sign of this setup for the reign of the Antichrist is seen in the explosion of lawlessness, which Jesus warned us about in Mathew’s Gospel. People aren’t simply breaking the laws of government; they’re totally rejecting God’s authority and moral order. Some refuse to be accountable to anyone but themselves.

Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold (Matthew 24:12).

Today, we truly see Isaiah’s prophecy coming true.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter (Isaiah 5:20).

Jesus also said that toward the end of the age, society would exist in a lawless state, exactly like the evil state the world was in during Noah’s time, before the flood. We are getting closer and closer to this state, as seen in the public celebration of wickedness.

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be (Matthew 24:37).

The spirit of the Antichrist is behind all this lawlessness. We must see that people are being conditioned to expect and glorify rebellion. Satan is trying to train the world to love darkness. This prevalent attitude is setting the stage for society to widely accept the ultimate deceiver.

Society has already removed God from education, government, culture, and family, which invites anarchy and chaos. The Apostle Paul predicted this spiritual malady would happen. He knew the worldly nature of mankind. He knew that people would desire power without repentance, peace without righteousness, and freedom without holiness.

Although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him… Therefore God gave them over to a depraved mind (Romans 1:21, 28).

Israel and the Parable of the Fig Tree

The top marker of fulfilled prophecy in the setup for the Antichrist’s reign is the existence of the state of Israel. Jesus gave us a major clue for knowing the season of His return in His parable of the fig tree. The fig tree has always been symbolic of Israel (see Hosea 9:10, Jeremiah 24:1–8, Joel 1:7, 1 Kings 4:25, Mark 11:12–25, Matthew 21:18–22, Matthew 24:32, and Luke 21:29–31).

Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near (Matthew 24:32, NIV).

When we see new alignments in the news among Russia, China, and Iran in intelligence cooperation, diplomatic strategies, economic ties, and changes to supply lines, it’s a clear indicator that the conditions precluding the Gog/Magog war are being put in place.

You will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you… against My people Israel (Ezekiel 38:15–16, BSB).

The fulfillment of prophecy in Ezekiel 38:11, about Israel becoming “a land of unwalled villages… living securely,” may soon become a reality.

Not every headline about Iran is a fulfillment of prophecy. The alignments among the key countries mentioned in prophecy should prompt us to recognize the significance and ramifications of these events. Our beliefs about how they relate to prophecy affect our eternal destiny. If we believe these events are prophetic and part of God’s ultimate plan for the redemption of mankind, we must not put off thinking about our relationship with Him. Now is the time to do some serious soul searching and make sure we’re right with God. That means thinking about who Jesus is (God in the flesh) and what He came to do on earth: to redeem us from our sins and make us right with God.

All of these prophecies point to a literal return of Christ to reign on earth after the end-game battle of Armageddon near Jerusalem. [2] Current events clearly show that God is moving history toward the fulfillment of His Word.

Artificial Intelligence and Economic Control

Another indication that the world is being set up to allow the Antichrist to have worldwide economic control is the rise of Artificial Intelligence. It’s already extremely powerful, and its presence is everywhere. It’s even starting to be worshipped by some people. [3] It will be used to gain economic control through monitoring people’s behavior via biometric IDs, global databases, and digital currency. It will play a role in fulfilling the prophecy about the mandatory economic system described in Revelation 13, in which no one will be able to buy or sell anything unless they have pledged allegiance to the Antichrist and bear His mark. People must read the Bible to see what God says about those who do this, because the consequences are terrible and irreversible (see Revelation, chapters 14 and 19).

The Coming Deception of False Peace

So many people are tired of constant economic and military instability. It won’t be long before they welcome a powerful leader offering global solutions with open arms. But believers know that his peace plan is nothing but deception. His system will appear to be reasonable, logical, compassionate, and necessary, but it will lead to spiritual slavery and ultimately, death. He will be indwelt by Satan and, like Satan, will disguise himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). People must not be deceived by his false promise of peace and prosperity. They must discern the difference between the peace of Christ and the peace of compromise.

The Rising Persecution of Christians

The increase in worldwide persecution of Christians is another sign that the stage is being set for the one-world religion prophesied about in Revelation, chapters 13 and 17. Jesus also prophesied about this persecution of believers.

You will be hated by everyone because of My name (Matthew 10:22, BSB).

Daily, we see news reports about Christians being mocked, excluded, censored, canceled, losing their jobs, imprisoned, and/or killed because of their faith. The world is tolerant of every other religion except Christianity. Most likely, this is because of its claim that God alone is sovereign, that His authority reigns supreme, and that we, as His creation, are accountable to Him.

We shouldn’t be surprised at this increase in Christian suffering. It’s what we signed up for when we pledged to God that we would allow Jesus to be the Lord of our lives forever. Jesus said it would cost us plenty to truly follow Him (see Luke 14:25–33). We must pray in His strength for the persecuted church. We must make the most of our remaining freedom to take up our cross daily and propel the Gospel forward. We must see that the time for comfortable Christianity is past; as we see from the lives of the Apostles, it was never promised to us in Scripture.

Conclusion

Analyzing the current trends in technology, entertainment, surveillance, criminal activity, and decline in morality shows that knowledge has increased, but wisdom hasn’t. History proves that moral collapse results in judgment (i.e., the Western Roman Empire, the Ming Dynasty, and the Ottoman Empire, to name a few).

God is patient, but He will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7). The days of Noah didn’t last forever. The day came when God shut the door of the Ark, and the world experienced His judgment. We must take seriously how close society is now to matching the antediluvian period before the flood. Jesus used Noah’s day as an example to warn the last generation before His return.

Our response to witnessing these events that are preparing the world for deception should cause us to realize God’s faithfulness. We don’t have to live in fear because we’ve seen His faithfulness throughout Scripture and understand His nature and attributes. We know that everything is happening according to His plan.

However, we can’t sit on our laurels now. If Jesus is coming soon, and it looks like He is, we need to live like we believe what the Bible says about His return! Now isn’t the time to stay silent on who Jesus is and what He did for us. It’s not a time to compromise our biblical values or treat holiness as optional.

The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light (Romans 13:12, BSB).

As the signs of Jesus’s return grow louder, we must be ready. We must tell the world that God’s mercy and forgiveness are still available today, and He wants everyone to experience His love, not His judgment. We must tell people not to delay coming to Him, because their eternal destiny depends on what they decide to do about Jesus.

Behold, now is the time of favor; now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2, BSB).
