Quote Source – A Commenter on Medium.com
A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This quote was offered by a reader based on a recent article regarding Biblical Inerrancy. She acknowledged the value and deep truths of the Bible, but felt that to press inerrancy was both destructive to those seeking its truth and too dogmatic. My response follows:
“The Bible has profound “tension, paradox, and mystery” contained within its 750k words. However, two points. First, there are core beliefs that, in my view, are indisputable if the Holy Spirit is engaged in the heart of a mature believer. Second, the tension, paradox, and mystery do not have their source in God’s love letter to mankind. The source of confusion comes from man’s interpretation of His Word through the veil of our sin nature, our limited intelligence, and the evil that exists around us.
To that point, all the confusion that many sadly apply to the Scripture in order to question its authenticity and in order to reconcile their social worldview with their religious worldview will not exist in Heaven. In Heaven, we will be a new, sinless creation living before the throne of the Author of the Bible, able to get answers to all our questions. Put succinctly, I believe Biblical Christians, in Heaven, will see the Bible in perfect unity with no “tension, paradox or mystery,” thereby confirming that the challenges on earth were human-based.
Conclusion
Don’t miss the point on Heaven. Consider, with your sanctified imagination, being in Heaven at the feet of Jesus with a copy of the original autographs of the Bible in your hand. We will exist for eternity without any ego, pride, prejudice, or the myriad of other attributes of our sin nature, or the external evil that exists in the world, can produce.
What would you predict about God’s love letter to mankind from the perspective of a glorified, regenerated body? If you believe the same Bible (or 99% of it) is what you hold in your hand today, is it possible that the “tension, paradox, and mystery” can be acknowledged as a valid human failing rather than errors in God’s perfect Word? If true, then see your core beliefs (details here) as immutable, and now dig deep with an open mind to better understand those non-core Biblical Christian beliefs as you draw closer to the Author.
