Quote Source – Jeff Hilles
A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – So many Christians, when sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to someone seeking the truth about God, will shy away from Hell as part of the conversation. In writing about this reality (which, in large part, I support in those early stages of conversation), a reader offered a response on the value of including the downside of eternity in evangelism. To me, this was so unusual, I was compelled to bring it out into the open.
From a Commenter
“I want to give you my personal testimony to this [the inclusion of Hell in evangelism]. Hearing about reprobation [unforgiven sin] and actually having preached the reality of eternal damnation in hell is what immensely helped me come to Christ. Not because hell scared me into obedience, but because it was liberating to hear the truth.
“All my life I had heard about a gospel of cheap grace where you could just choose Christ and be saved without repenting of any of your sins. You just need to believe, and no one really goes to hell anyway, all are saved eventually or something. And I hated that with a passion. I knew that this is a lie the moment I heard it.
“Because of that I became an atheist and then later, a Nietzschean nihilist [life is pointless]. I would rather strive for some fickle meaning in a meaningless world where tragedy and sadness repeat unendingly without escape, than embrace a cheap gospel of … “everyone is saved.“ It was a lie, but I wanted the truth.
“Hearing about reprobation and unconditional election amazed me, because it felt so true and correct from the very beginning. I could not believe that this is what Christianity taught all along. And it made me so angry that modern Christians have exchanged the truth for a lie which brings comfort to those who don’t want to hear [the truth from God].
“I just want to say to anyone who preaches this reality: thank you.
Please know that there are people like me who need to hear this truth in order to be saved.”
My Response
I have had almost 9500 conversations on Medium over the last 3 years and your testimony on Hell is something that makes sense, but one I have never heard from anyone before.
Conclusion
God created each of us uniquely. He also draws us to Himself uniquely. Typically, the subject of Hell is not a topic one should proactively be discussing as we share God’s love and grace in the provision He made through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ, for our sins. However, the above is evidence that we should always be ready to offer (2 Timothy 4:2) what needs to be said in each divine appointment and …
