A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Discerning the will of God in everyday decisions is one of the most important aspects of the Christian life. Though the Bible is typically clear in the areas it addresses, there are many nuances given that we do not live in a perfect, sinless world. Using Scripture as a starting point, prayer, circumstances, and the wisdom of others all tend to be applied as we decide everything from what car to buy (is that BMW M850 really reflecting good stewardship of God’s provisions?) to the size of our dessert plate at the church supper (our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit) … and everything in between.
In 1 Samuel 25, the prophet died, leaving King Saul with no one else to provide him with spiritual guidance, something he greatly needed. By 1 Samuel 28, Saul no longer heard from God and was so desperate to get advice from his former prophet Samuel that the King went to a fortune teller by night in an attempt to bring Samuel up from the dead.
As born-again believers it is important to have mature spiritual advisors in our lives. Not just a single person who, through their own sin nature, could drift into apostasy or, in any other way, become unavailable just when we need them.
We need to fellowship with a group of believers who are willing to offer us honest advice and pray for our well being. Typically the source of these individuals comes from the local body of Christ, the church.
Proverbs 15:22 - Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.
