Pastor Hoping Worship Goes Long Because To Be Honest…

He Doesn't Really Have Much To Say About Philemon.

He Doesn't Really Have Much To Say About Philemon.

Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – There is no question preaching through Philemon could be a challenge. According to OverviewBible and BibleGateway, Philemon ranks sixth in the least read books of the Bible. Obadiah has the dubious honor of being awarded #1.

There is often this tension between topical and expository preaching. Many Biblical Christian pastors correctly believe that expository, or preaching verse-by-verse through a book of the Bible, insures that both the leader and his flock do not avoid the richness and challenges of what God is trying to teach us. Topical sermons have their place as well. This is especially true when there are events going on in the community or the church that need focused (but grace-filled) attention.

Perhaps the best approach is a blend that has as its foundation verse-by-verse, supplemented with cross-references and illustrations which add color and clarity to the verses being reviewed. No surprises here.
