Our Inheritance

Our Genetic Code

How is it that we so readily accept that we inherit our genes from our parents? We don’t choose the color of our eyes, skin or hair. We accept that it has been handed down to us by the unique combination of parental genes when we were created.

We are not guilty of choosing what we look like, nor are we guilty of choosing what family we are born into. We accept it as a scientific fact that we inherit our genes from our parents, but we balk at the fact that we have inherited humanity’s sinful nature since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden.

"When Adam was 130 years old, he became the father of a son who was just like him—in his very image." (Genesis 5:3a).

We can’t choose what we inherit but we can choose to reject a life of sin by receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is the beauty of the Gospel. I was born into sin, but I don’t have to live a life of sin and condemnation. We have a Redeemer. Jesus paid the price to ransom us from our sin.

"Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone" (Romans 5:18).

Praise God!
