Excerpt: 'The Force' From Star Wars
Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee—There are denominations that do not accept the Trinitarian view of God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jehovah’s Witnesses, for example, view the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force that can be drawn on to provide miraculous power, similar to the “Force” in the movie series Star Wars. Mormons also treat the Holy Spirit in non-personal terms.
The reality is that the Holy Spirit has specific attributes that make clear He is a person and not an unknowable force.
- The Bible uses a personal term (He and Him and Spirit) when referring to the Holy Spirit.
- We are to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
- We are called not to grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).
- We are told not to sin against the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 63:10) or lie to Him (Acts 5:3).
- We are to obey Him (Acts 10:19-21) and honor Him (Psalm 51:11).
- The Holy Spirit has life (Romans 8:2), has a will (1 Corinthians 12:11), is omniscient (1 Corinthians 2:10-11), is eternal (Hebrews 9:14), and is omnipresent (Psalm 139:7).
