A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This quote came as a response to my view that Biblical Christians should not waste their time reading material that falls outside their core beliefs.
I am constantly receiving requests to study the word of “theologians” with beliefs that fall outside of my core beliefs (details here). My respectful response has been that if one believes the source of all wisdom as to human morality and our eternal condition come from only two sources, good (God) and evil (Satan and our sin nature), then why should we waste time studying evil?
The classic secular example comes from those who are engaged in detecting counterfeit money. They don’t study the thousands of errors a bill could have. Instead, they focus on what a real bill looks like, so when they see one that does not fit that mold, it stands out.
It is very true that our life on this earth isn’t binary. We live in a gray world where it becomes very difficult at times to determine “What Would Jesus Do.” However, spending time reading about false doctrines, missing books of the Bible, secret knowledge, mistranslations, twisted Scripture, and on and on, does not serve either our sanctification or the Kingdom of God. Instead, we need to focus on what we know to be true (God’s word), attempting to discern His desire for our lives.
Our earthly life needs to be as binary (discernment of good from evil) as it can possibly be, recognizing that the other side of the grave (the ultimate in a binary existence) is where our citizenship truly lies.
Matthew 6:21 – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.`
Philippians 3:20 – But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
