Quote Source – Corrie ten Boom
A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – This quote is especially poignant given the history of Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983). She was a Dutch watchmaker and was instrumental in helping Jews escape the Nazis during the Holocaust, celebrating her 51st Christmas in a concentration camp after being found out.
It is estimated that Corrie saved over 800 Jewish people from certain death or enslavement during World War II by hiding them in her home until arrangements could be made for their escape. She, her sister, and her father built a secret room attached to her bedroom to hide those escaping from Nazi occupation. She also acquired 100 ration cards to provide food and was heavily involved in the resistance movement and raided orphanages, rescuing babies while disguising themselves as German soldiers.
Corrie hid a tiny Bible inside a locket she wore around her neck that she smuggled into the concentration camp. As many times as she was searched during her captivity, the Germans never found it. The Scriptures brought comfort to her and the other prisoners.
As a Christian, Corie relied on her faith in God’s protection and providence in the midst of a dark time in the world. It is the same God today that we can lean on, through His Word and prayer, when our problems seem insurmountable.
