Is a mission trip in your future?

Examine your " To Love " list, and see who is getting most of the time and attention. Ask God for more love to love the things that He loves.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from John 6:37, “All that the father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”

Background

Last night at church, we heard reports from people who had gone out into the mission field on short term trips, as well as updates from those who minister to the lost right where they are. In the past several months, teams have travelled to the Middle East, Guatemala, Haiti, Michigan, and Toronto. Likewise, ministry has been served locally through VBS and the preschool. Lives have been touched through medical training, physical labor, an eyeglass clinic, working in orphanages, assisting church planters, and participating in a sports camp. And these activities are just a few of the things that we know about where intention was made to show love and concern to another segment of God’s creation. Only eternity will reveal what was accomplished through the Holy Spirit that will have a Kingdom impact. Many that God is working on may not even realize it yet for themselves that the Creator is at work recreating their hearts. In order for these trips to occur, God gathers from a variety of His people at very different places of willingness. Many are constantly thinking about missions and are merely waiting for the next trip to be scheduled. Others have heard the call many times, but only recently has the Voice seemed more intended for them specifically. And some, frankly, think that God has dialed their number by mistake.

Application

You might have been in one of these camps at some point, and God drew you all the way to the point of getting up and going. Or, He may have drawn you to financially support the members of His body that He sent forth. There are many ways to go spread the gospel. You may, however, be in one of those other camps right now, or somewhere in between, in a camp more unique to your current relationship with Christ. But, you are in a camp. The question is, what is your camp about? Who is your camp about? My guess is that it’s about the one you love most. So maybe we need to answer that question first. To do that, we first have to ask it.

Charge

As we seek Him today, examine your “To Love” list and see who is getting most of the time and attention. Ask God for more love to love the things that He loves.
