Scripture
Our verse for today comes from Ezekiel 39:17, ” And as for you, son of man, thus says the Lord God, ‘Speak to every sort of bird and to every beast of the field.’ “
Background
I don’t know where you might stand on the idea of luck. I happen to believe there’s no such thing as luck. Rather, I believe that God is in control of everything, everywhere, at all times. I even try not to wish someone ” good luck, ” since I don’t want to give the impression that I think their future or some result regarding them is left up to chance. Regardless of where we say we stand on luck, it seems our prayer life reveals our truest position on this issue. People who are inclined to pray about the smallest, most insignificant matters bear out their belief that God is in control, and nothing is too small to escape His attention. But those who don’t want to bother God with the daily affairs of their life, or think that certain things are meant for us to handle on our own, seem to be saying that God cares, but perhaps He cares in a way that leaves some things out of His realm of concern. But when I read today’s verse, I hear about a God who is telling His prophet, His spokesman to His people, to give a message to the birds and beasts. God is planning a great victory for His people, and part of His plan involves the animal kingdom. That is so awesome. God has told Israel that He would give them victory over Gog and his army, and that the weapons of their enemies will provide enough firewood for Israel for seven years. And now He gives details to the animals on how they will be involved in the aftermath of a great victory from God’s hand. It seems that God is so in control, so involved, that He has plans concerning things that we could not even imagine.
Application
We may think that something on our mind is trite or trivial, but He wants us to know that we could not begin to consider all the areas that He is working to have His will be done. He wants us to know that our daily bread is in the same prayer as His kingdom come. So don’t limit or measure what you think God can handle. Trust Him, believe Him, and see how great He is, not how lucky you are.
Charge
As we seek Him today, pray about the small parts of your day. And then pray about something even smaller. Let God meet you where He hasn’t met you before.
