A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – In America how many Christians have walked away from a public profession of their faith due to “fear of sneer?” Afraid we will offend others in our social groups. More likely, afraid we will be ostracized because of our “faith.”
No one who has studied the Bible to any degree has missed its clear teachings on persecution (2 Timothy 3:12, John 15:18, Matthew 5:44, 1 Peter 4:12-14, 2 Corinthians 12:10, and on and on). So, if this is to be expected as part of the Christian experience, when was the last time you were sneered at, much less thrown in prison, or worse?
Webster defines sneer as, “to smile or laugh with facial contortions that express scorn or contempt.”
Does that fit with all of the Scripture verses above? Have you been blessed because you have been persecuted for your Biblical Christian worldview in the last year, last two years …?
Matthew 5:10 – Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Persecution = blessed = Heaven … ?
Yes, we are to show love and grace to those who are lost. But how many “Christians” have deconstructed their faith to such a degree that they find it falsely comforting to believe loving our neighbor is exclusively limited to an earthly, help-based ministry, rather than using that relationship in order to have the credibility to express the Good News in preparation for eternity?
Webster defines eternity as, “a seemingly endless or immeasurable time.”
If sharing the plan of salvation with others is not a primary goal of loving one’s lost neighbor, offering care in the here-and-now, we are not demonstrating the full love of God.
Philippians 1:27 – Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.
