Scripture
Our verse for today comes from Exodus 4:30, ” And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then he did the signs in the sight of the people. “
Background
I gave some instructions to my family as we departed to go our separate ways last night. They were nothing too challenging or unusual, just some direct guidelines, reminders really, of what needed to get done the final hour or so before bedtime. I can’t say that I expected full compliance, the circumstances as they were, but I was counting on them to give it the old college try. Giving them instructions to carry out in my absence was not an uncommon occurrence, and these were things that I would expect of them most any night. But to no great surprise, they were accomplished with varying degrees of success, much like if I were actually at home with them, cajoling them to get their mess done and get to bed. And that’s why I am so amazed at how Aaron responded during his reunion with Moses in the wilderness. Who knows how long it had been since they had seen each other. There is no indication that their paths had crossed in the forty years since Moses ran from Egypt. All we know is that the Lord told Aaron to go meet Moses in the wilderness. And what a meeting it was. Aaron hears of all that Moses and God had discussed on that same mountain, and he learns about all the signs that God will perform back in Egypt. And he finds out that he is going to be the point man in this great deliverance of Israel. And how did he respond? Perfectly. A generation had passed since he’d heard from his brother, God sent him from his home out into the wild to meet him, he finds out he’s God’s spokesman to deliver the Israelites from Pharaoh’s oppression, and all he can do is go right along with it. No excuses, no need for further explanation. I instructed my gang and it went so-so. God talked directly to Moses and performed miracles before his very eyes, and Moses couldn’t have resisted it more.
Application
Aaron comes out of nowhere to make his first appearance in God’s plan, and there’s not a bit of hesitation. I’m guessing we’ve all been in these various shoes, some more than others. It’s faith in an awesome God that gets you to Aaron’s. Go ahead and try them on.
Charge
As we seek Him today, ask God to take away your reticence and procrastination. Consider how your hesitation makes God smaller and smaller.
