Scripture
Our verse for today comes from Mark 5:33, “But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.”
Background
There’s no mistaking when one of my kids has received a gift or surprise from someone. Just yesterday, the two youngest came busting into the house holding peanut butter chocolate protein bars. As they left their friends house up the street, each of them was given a bar for no particular reason, and came home not exactly knowing what they had. But the real point was that they had been given a treat, and they were excited to show us what they had. It didn’t matter that I knew that when they tasted it, it wasn’t going to thrill them like a Snickers does. When my son found some money on the ground one day, he didn’t have to muster up the nerve to tell me of his good fortune. He couldn’t get to me fast enough to show me his unexpected windfall. How odd it would have been for me to find out from one of his siblings sometime later that he had come into some money but never mentioned it to me.
Application
And so, it’s startling to read how the woman who had been ill for twelve years reacts after being miraculously healed after touching the clothes of Jesus. She had spent all that she had on doctors, only to find herself worse off now than when she began. But when she heard about Jesus, she believed that He could do for her what no one else had been able to do. And so she fought through the crowd and came up behind Him, and touched Him. Immediately, she could feel within her body that she was well. Her health was restored, His power had worked, and she was like new again. But then, she trembled with fear. Finally getting what she had been after for so long, she was terrified. One might think that she was wishing she could undo what had just happened. Too many Christians walk around like this. But unlike her, they don’t fall down before Jesus and tell Him the whole truth. They avoid Him in fear or for what he might require of them. They seem to be more put off than having put on Jesus. If you realize what has happened within your once dead heart, I recommend you live like it.
