‘Church Shouldn’t Be Political,’ Says Pastor…

Words of Wisdom from the Babylon Bee – There is a constant tension between being in the world and not of the world (John 17:14-15). The application of Scripture in the real world challenges our notion of how far to go in political discourse. So much of Biblical teachings are geared toward how Christians are to function as God’s ambassadors toward each other and unbelievers.

There are the extremes, used by the lost as examples of our inconsistency. Main-Line Liberal Christian churches largely view the Bible as a social gospel dedicated exclusively to loving our neighbor by promoting abortion and same-sex marriages. This is juxtaposed by the extremes of Hyper-Conservative Christian churches whose narrow view of God’s commands results in pharisaical legalism. Each group points at the flaws of the other, and the testimony of a Biblical Christian worldview becomes muddied in the hypocrisy of both camps.

As Biblical Christians our primary focus should be on loving people as God so loved us (Luke 10:27). Since we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), we need to show the grace that the Lord has shown us in our dealings with those who do not agree with our worldview. Secondarily, however, when called to make known our stand, persecution should not come as a surprise (2 Timothy 3:12). The scales on which each of us weigh these two sometimes opposing objectives must be done on an individual basis, unique to the relationships formed and the situation. However, in all cases, flaunting sin, such as displaying pride flags on the church building or within their Statement of Faith, falls outside of God’s Word, just as much as the vitriol from churches, such as Westboro Baptist’s, who’s URL speaks for itself – https://godhatesfags.com.
