A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – “We need to cry, rejoice, and pray with one another.” “When did church become a Spotify playlist.”
Church is a gathering of like-minded believers in fellowship, worship, study, and accountability with each other. It is not an isolated video production one watches as a disconnected soul on a screen. Covid forced the church to press into technology to maintain some level of engagement, but that was to be a temporary, not a permanent solution.
As the church was forming in the book of Acts, it was clear that gathering together was critical.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. – Acts 2:42
And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, – Acts 2:46
Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. – Hebrews 10:25
To isolate ourselves and our families from a solid Biblical Christian church is to fall back into the world.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. – 1 John 2:15
POSTSCRIPT… A reader made a strong case for making online church intentionally interactive. However, to add to my points above, I responded…
“You do make a good point on the value of intentionality. But, respectfully, I still offer the view that even as you describe it, nothing beats meeting in the fellowship hall over a meal, doing a mission trip together with other members, going on a retreat, meeting on Wednesday nights for a Bible study, meeting in a small room for adult AND children’s Sunday School, and standing outside the church after a service catching up with others.”
