Called by Name: When Pain Makes You Forget Who You Are

A devotional on the God who knows you by name when pain says forgotten

With a Subtitle: A devotional on the God who knows you by name when pain says forgotten

A brief Excerpt: When betrayal, rejection, and pain make you forget who you are, Isaiah 43:1 answers with a deeply personal truth: God knows you by name, and you belong to Him.

“I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” — Isaiah 43:1

When Pain Makes You Forget Who You Are

There are seasons where pain makes you forget who you are. The betrayal. The rejection. The disappointment. The abandonment. Sometimes what happened to you becomes louder than your identity. You stop seeing yourself clearly. Instead of seeing who you are, you begin seeing what broke you. The woman who was left. The woman who was betrayed. The woman who struggles. The woman who quietly hurts. And if you are not careful, pain begins to whisper a dangerous lie: You are forgotten. But friend, forgotten people are not called by name.

Called by Name, Known Personally and Completely

This Scripture carries something deeply personal: “I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” Not a number. Not another face in the crowd. Not invisible. Known. Personally. Intimately. Completely. God does not simply know about you. He knows you. He knows your story.

The God Who Knows Your Whole Story

The heartbreak people never fully understood. The silent prayers you whispered through tears. The wounds you hide beneath strength. The parts of yourself you are still trying to heal. He knows the version of you before pain shaped parts of your story. And He knows the woman you are becoming.

You Belong to God, Not Because You Earned It

Perhaps people misunderstood you. Perhaps they abandoned you, overlooked you, or failed to see your value. But hear this today: The God of Heaven knows your name. You belong to Him. Not because you earned it. Not because you have healed perfectly. Not because you finally have everything together. You are His because He chose to call you His.

Where Healing Begins

And perhaps healing begins here: Not in striving to be seen by people, but in remembering that you are already fully known by God.

Truth for Today

I am personally known and deeply loved by God.

Prayer

God, thank You for knowing me so deeply. Thank You for seeing beyond my wounds, my fears, and the places where I still struggle. When pain makes me forget who I am, remind me that I am known by name and that I belong to You. Help me rest in the truth that I am not forgotten, unseen, or abandoned. I am Yours. Amen.
