The future impact of AI from a Biblical Christian worldview perspective has been covered extensively on this platform. However, it has always been through the lens of first-world countries and their need for supremacy in the AI marketplace, resulting in short-term benefits with potentially deadly long-term consequences. A few examples of those articles are:
- Artificial Intelligence – plus Transhumanism, and Quantum Computing
- Artificial Intelligence and the Technology Wars
- Artificial Intelligence Growth Stats
- “Artificial Intelligence should be of no Consequence to Christians.”
- Artificial Intelligence may be God’s vehicle to bring a predicted ending to this world.
For this to be considered a worldwide impact from artificial intelligence, one needs to acknowledge that third-world countries lack even basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing. The lack of a technological infrastructure might lead one to the perception that AI will have little or no impact—positive or negative—on their lives. Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, has 60% of the global population living in extreme poverty (below $2.15/day). Further, nearly 47% of the world’s population live on less than a $6.85 daily income.
But limited tech in many countries doesn’t mean they won’t be impacted by AI. In fact, poor countries may be more vulnerable to attacks supported by artificial intelligence. Consider what Venezuela is looking at with 30% of American naval resources just off their coastline. Even today that armada is being supported by AI for command and control operations. Fast forward ten years and imagine the increase in non-human warfare systems from China, Russia, or other adversarial military operations in a completely unprotected country offering natural resources.
A Biblical Christian Worldview perspective
More important than any secular view of AI in the third world is what is offered as a prophecy looking toward the end-times. The Bible speaks of a one-world government that encompasses not just first but also third-world countries. If that is to happen through the use of artificial intelligence, those countries least able to defend themselves are most vulnerable as governments collapse under a single individual, the Antichrist.
