A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – These are the questions that keep me going. Below was my initial response.
I believe there are three levels of “doctrinal formulations”: Essential, Core, and, Non-Core.
Essential – What does it take to be saved and go to Heaven.
Core – What are the fundamental areas of Biblical Christian theology that you are very confident in, which build upon each other to form your beliefs. Like building blocks, if one gets pulled, the house could easily fall.
Non-Core – What are the doctrines you think are true but, if you were wrong, it would not impact your faith, trust, or hope in God.
The first link below is our Core Statement of Faith. The first element in that list is Essential, which is … salvation. The second link is how to be saved. So, yes, I do believe that God, in His Word, provides a “doctrinal formulation” for salvation. However, and this is so very important, salvation does NOT come from a doctrinal formula like a cookbook recipe. It comes from a heart change as mentioned in that second link.
Conclusion
Yes … I could have gone deeper; I could have been more direct; I could have offered more specifics in my response. However, my view is that if God is drawing this person to Himself, then this individual will read those links and come back with questions. These days our culture reflects short attention spans, and often a few words actually read are more impactful that many words just skimmed.
1 Corinthians 3:5-7 – What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
