A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – All the way back to the Garden of Eden the serpent was correct when he told Eve …
Genesis 3:5 – For God knows that when you eat of it [forbidden fruit] your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
However, inside that truth was the seduction of that knowledge of good and evil which God had forbid them from experiencing.
So many today are having a similar experience, a lie inside the shell of truth … the consequences of which may isolate them from God for eternity. Our salvation comes from faith, not from works, and is based on a vertical relationship with God, first and foremost. Yet our sin nature promotes the lie that we can earn a place in Heaven through our own efforts.
James 2:14,17 – What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? … So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Too many believe that being a “good person” by doing good deeds for our neighbor, so as to be better than others, is the path to God. What is missed is that our relationship with God results in the demonstrations of our good works, and not the other way around.
The truth is that our salvation is dependent on the grace of God and our faith in Christ as our Savior and Lord. Once we have experienced that transformation in our heart through the Holy Spirit, we then begin “to love our neighbor” from a Godly perspective.
Luke 10:27 – And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
Note the order … love the Lord with all our heart RESULTS in an ability to share His love with our neighbor.
