There is a deep and steady comfort that settles over the believer who understands that one of God’s unshakeable truths is that God is with you, both in His promises and His ongoing presence. Knowing God cannot lie and that His word is Truth and unchanging means His promise is absolutely trustworthy when He tells us He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

This reaffirms His promise from the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8). Jesus restates it again to His disciples as He encourages them to go forward into the world with the Gospel, that He is with them (and us) always (Matthew 28:20), all the way through the end of the age until we are reunited with Him in Glory!

The God who always tells the truth – whose Word is Truth (John 17:17) keeps His promise! The same God who is sovereign over all – with absolute authority, absolute power, and in control of all creation – is the same God who walks beside you, goes before you, and surrounds you with His presence.

This truth is not a sentimental idea. It is the steady heartbeat of Scripture. Psalm 23 paints the picture clearly: “You are with me.” Jesus affirms it in Matthew 28:20: “I am with you always.” God’s presence is not occasional or conditional. It is constant, personal, and unbreakable.

When He says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” He means it. When He says He is near to the brokenhearted, He is.
