Every adult that has ever been born has developed some form of religion. The word “religion” is defined by Webster as, “a particular variety of such belief, especially when organized into a system of doctrine and practice.”
It does not matter if one is an atheist, an agnostic, a gnostic, a Jehovah’s Witness, a thief, a killer, or a Christian. By the time we reach adulthood, we have all established our own personal worldview that includes some moral code of ethics, beliefs, and resulting practices and behaviors.
This worldview that each of us holds is not immutable, but we are often very resistant to changing our core beliefs. We seek out others who share our life’s ‘theology’ in order to reinforce and comfort ourselves that we know the truth and we are in the right … even to the point of justifying attempting to kill a presidential candidate, burn automobiles, and steal from the rich. Finally, there is always a grain of truth in the lies that we tell ourselves in order to justify our behavior.
However, if and when we are willing to recognize there is a law above our own moral code of ethics, we have a choice. We can either make a radical change in our worldview (example, become a Biblical Christian) and repent of our past ways, or reject the standards set by the Creator of the universe and deal with the future consequences of that decision.
Matthew 25:46 – And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
For the large majority reading this brief post, one thing is for certain …. The worldview we hold at death will be transferred to the other side of the grave.
