A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – It is true that one of the many failings of the contemporary church is a lack of accountability for the actions of its members.
However, we need to be cautious when using the term “church” to make a global condemnation of an institution that God ordained, when, in fact, we are really expressing frustration or hurt over individuals that need to take responsibility for their words and actions.
People are sinners and do and say bad things. But the church as an institution is not, in and of itself, bad, as long as it is theologically sound in its core doctrine. When the unchurched, much less the churched, beat up the Lord’s house, it seems to move the responsibility for our individual actions onto a nebulous corporate entity. The result is deconstructionism and a waiver of responsibility for the actions of individuals. Further, we reject one of the cornerstones of our Christian faith as expressed in God’s word.
Acts 20:28 – Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
