Many Christians desire to live a victorious life, rising above their circumstances. But what does it truly mean to “rule above your world”? Biblically, it refers to the authority and empowerment believers receive through Jesus Christ to walk in dominion, fulfill their God-given purpose, and exercise spiritual authority.
The Bible makes it clear that God intends for us to walk in authority over the circumstances of life, not be overwhelmed by them. So, how do we embrace this calling and live empowered to rule above our world? Let’s explore key principles from the Scriptures that guide us to live in divine authority.
1. Understand Your Identity in Christ
Do you know that, as a believer, you have a glorious identity in Christ Jesus? Unfortunately, many of us don’t recognize this; therefore, we live below what God has ordained for us.
To rule above your world, you must first recognize your identity as a child of God. The foundation of dominion is rooted in understanding who you are in Christ. The Bible makes us understand that through Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin or subject to the limitations of this world.
Ephesians 2:6 declares,
"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus."
Being seated with Christ is a position of authority. It signifies that we have been given a spiritual standpoint from which we can live victoriously over sin, fear, and the pressures of life.
This understanding shifts your mindset from victimhood to victory. You are not defined by your past, your failures, or your circumstances. You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out the purpose God has for you.
2. Exercise Your Authority Through Faith
Once you know your identity, the next step is to exercise your God-given authority through faith. Faith is the currency of the Kingdom of God, and without it, we cannot walk in the fullness of what God has for us.
Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
Jesus has given us power over the enemy and the challenges he throws our way. Hallelujah.
However, walking in this authority requires faith. “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Faith allows us to activate the promises of God in our lives. It moves us from being passive recipients of God’s grace to active participants in His Kingdom.
We see this in the life of Peter. When he stepped out of the boat and walked on water (Matthew 14:29), he acted on faith. His ability to do the impossible was rooted in trusting the Word of Jesus. Like Peter, we are called to step out in faith, even when our natural circumstances seem impossible.
3. Speak the Word of God Over Your Life
The power of life and death is in your tongue (Proverbs 18:21). As believers, one of the most effective ways to rule above our circumstances is through speaking the Word of God over our lives.
God’s Word is not just letters on a page; it is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).
When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He responded to every temptation with Scripture (Matthew 4:1-11). This demonstrates the power of the Word in overcoming the enemy’s lies and schemes. The same principle applies to us today.
I have personally decided to face fear, doubt, and adversity by declaring what God says about me, rather than what my circumstances suggest. And I encourage you to do the same.
The more you saturate your life with God’s Word, the more empowered you become to rise above your circumstances and walk in victory.
4. Stay Connected to the Holy Spirit
To rule above your world, you must stay connected to the Holy Spirit. He is the source of your power and guidance. Jesus told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them (Acts 1:8). This power is not just for ministry but for living the abundant life God has called us to.
The Holy Spirit empowers us with wisdom, strength, and discernment. He helps us make decisions that align with God’s will, and He gives us the grace to overcome challenges. Romans 8:26 also tells us that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses and intercedes for us in ways we cannot even comprehend.
Cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and meditation on God’s Word keeps you spiritually charged and sensitive to His leading. It is through the Spirit that we live above the limitations of the flesh and experience the supernatural grace of God.
5. Walk in Obedience to God’s Will
Lastly, ruling above your world requires walking in obedience to God’s will. True empowerment comes when we submit our lives fully to God’s plan and purpose. Jesus is our ultimate example. Though He was fully God, He submitted Himself to the will of the Father, even unto death (Philippians 2:8).
In John 14:15, Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.”
Obedience positions us to receive God’s best and live under His protection and favor. Often, the challenges we face are opportunities for God to stretch our faith and reveal His power, but we must be willing to follow His instructions. Obedience might require you to step out of your comfort zone, forgive someone who hurt you, or wait patiently for God’s timing. But when you obey, you align yourself with heaven’s agenda, and God’s power is released in your life.
Let me conclude with this:
God has called us to live as rulers, not victims, in this world. Through our Identity in Christ, Faith, The Power of God’s Word, The Holy Spirit, and Obedience to God’s will, we are empowered to rise above every circumstance. 1 John 5:4 says, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”
You were not created to live defeated or overwhelmed. Through Christ, you have been empowered to rule above your world. Embrace this divine authority, and watch as God’s victory unfolds in every area of your life.
“????…I’m Walking in Power, I’m walking in Miracle, I live my life on favour, ’cause I know who I am.”
Stay blessed!
