Why was the wedding at the church so crowded?

Theology on the Lighter Side – Why was the wedding at the church so crowded? – Because everyone wanted to witness a match made in heaven!

Unequally-yoked is a Biblical term most Christians are aware of. It typically refers to a couple where one is a born-again believer and the other is not. The concept comes directly from Scripture …

2 Corinthians 6:14 – Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Though usually applied to spouses, it is clear from the context of the verse that it has much broader implications in areas such as business relationships and even friendships. And, it is true that people with similar worldviews do tend to bond and function better than those with adversarial beliefs and practices.

Fellowship between Biblical Christians is based on an agreed-upon set of beliefs and commands that originate from a source higher than ourselves. Releasing our own personal sense of right and wrong to God’s unchanging instructions offers a foundation that strengthens like-minded individuals in marriage and all other forms of contact.

However, Christians should not become insulated from the world around us as this isolation runs contrary to evangelism. We need to be “in the world,” but not “of the world” (John 17:14-15). Nevertheless, the marriage covenant is not a place for evangelism of one’s spouse. Marriage is to be a unified team directed toward raising a Godly family, best accomplished if equally-yoked from the start.
