Theology on the Lighter Side – Moses went up Mount Sinai to receive a tangible, physical list of commandments from God… while the Israelites waited below and fell away from serving God to serving idols. When Moses returned and saw how his people had fallen back to their sinful nature, he broke the tablets in frustration, later to be replaced with a second set that ended up in the Ark of the Covenant.
The Israelites had been miraculously saved from the Pharaoh and had seen all the plagues that led up to their release. Yet they so easily fell away, worshiping the golden calf rather than God. If it was so easy for the Israelites to fall away, how much easier is it for us today to do the same?
The advantage we have as Biblical Christians is that the Holy Spirit resides in our hearts as our Counselor in matters of faith and practice. Pray that you rely on Him rather than the sin nature we were all born with that so easily comes out when we begin to drift from our Bible, our prayer life, and our church family.
