Why do Christian business owners never panic?

Because they trust in divine provision!

Because they trust in divine provision!

Theology on the Lighter Side – Why do Christian business owners never panic? – Because they trust in divine provision!

However, sometimes “divine provisions” do not come in the form of increased sales or profit. A major part of my personal testimony stems from the lack of financial provisions from God.

Prior to my late 30’s, I was an atheist, antagonistic toward those who believed in the need for a god or gods as a crutch for life. To me at that time, hard work resulted in personal rewards, and there was no god in the equation. Becoming tired of working my way up the corporate ladder, I quit my good job, we sold our house and moved to North Carolina, and I purchased a small business I expected to grow into a major enterprise. Six years later, through an economic recession and the many mistakes I made, we found ourselves in both personal and business bankruptcy.

Through all the depression and stress, I had enlisted an accountant who was a Christian. Over a few years, he gently explained the gospel and opened my eyes to the truth of God’s Word. Along with others, both my wife and I, in 1989, asked the Lord into our hearts.

God used business failure to get me on my knees looking toward Him rather than myself. He showed me His love and grace when I was at my lowest point. As a “business owner,” His “divine provision” was faith, hope, and trust rather than material success. In the end, financial security did come as we rebuilt under His authority, and an acceptance that He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10).
