Theology on the Lighter Side – Why didn’t they play cards on the Ark? Because Noah was standing on the deck!
That was probably not true. Most believe that the Ark was sealed by God after all its inhabitants had entered.
Genesis 7:16 And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the LORD shut him in.
Imagine those standing outside watching the ramp drop away and the door being sealed on its own. And then the rain came, something never seen before… for forty days and nights… with those outside banging on the sides of the ship, desperate to get in.
Two things to ponder beyond the Sunday School rendition of the event. First, was this a way God got rid of the giants (Nephilim) as well, or did one hang on to the side of the Ark through the Great Flood? Second, as God is omniscient, He knew before the creation of the world that…
Genesis 6:5-7… the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Yet, He allowed it all to play out, just as He does in dealing with our sin nature today.
