Theology on the Lighter Side – Why didn’t they let Jesus in the jewelry store? – Because they were afraid He’d break every chain!
Isaiah 58:6b - To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke?
This is the bondage that sin puts on the shoulders of the lost. We feel the weight that comes from those times we do wrong. We feel there is no escape, caught in a never-ending cycle of jealousy, pride, depression, and an overwhelming sense of “why are we here,” struggling through this life only to have it end. This is the oppression pressed on us by our sin nature and the evil one.
God’s grace and love for us has offered a way to break those bonds, those chains. Predicted by the prophets of the Old Testament, Christ offers freedom from our sin if we would only come to Him and accept Him as both our Savior and the Lord of our lives. That new life is the freedom found only in Jesus.
Galatians 5:1 - For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
